A New Life in Christ: The Apostle John

Those who are in Christ have been given a new life in Christ…

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation;
old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” –2 Corinthians 5:17

In this lesson we see a new life emerging in one of Jesus’ disciples. As we examine the New Testament we see the Calling of John, the Character of John, and the Change that takes place in the life of John who went from selfish ambition to selfless love.

The Armor of God – part 2

In this second lesson in a three part series on The Armor of God, we examine the schemes of the devil.

“Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.”  – Ephesians 6:11

Put-On-Truth320All of satan’s schemes  (Greek: methodeia) or methods, are built on his main weapon: The Lie – and when a little truth is mingled with the lie it becomes a more powerful lie.

In this lesson we examine 2 main methods of attack:
1. Attack by Temptation, 2. Attack by Accusation.
Both methods of attack have the same intended purpose: To get you to give up on God.

The Armor of God

Spiritual Warfare and the Armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-20)

“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.”
(Eph 6:10–11).

Put-On-Truth320We See 2 Instructions…
1. Be strong in the Lord…
2. Put on the Full Armor of God…

Our Battle is a Spiritual Battle & Satan is Our Spiritual Enemy
But Without the Armor of God we’ve lost already
Our strength must be from the Lord…

Wisdom in Trials

How do you handle Trials? (James 1:1-8)

Viktor Frankl survived the NAZI concentration camps of WW2 and described the effects it had on himself and the prisoners he suffered with. He discovered that between a trial and your response to that trial there is a space – and in that space is your ability to choose your attitude in any circumstance.

“Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms—
to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances.” – Viktor Frankl

It is in this space, between a trial and your response to it, that James says we must have wisdom. For James tells us that…

To Overcome Trials We Must Have Wisdom in Trials

  • Wisdom to See Through Trials,
  • Wisdom to Learn From Trials,
  • Wisdom to Turn to God in Trials
  • and Grow Stronger From Trials

“When we are no longer able to change a situation,
we are challenged to change ourselves.” – Viktor Frankl

“For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.” Romans 8:18
